the time has come
February 27, 2008
There has been just one tiny thing keeping me from starting this blog: a name.
Names are important. Especially to someone who loves letters, words, and all things lexical. Many of my friends have already made names for themselves the blog world with clever, witty titles and I felt like I had a lot to live up to.
This morning, after enlisting the help of my friends, Life is a Banquet was born. The credit belongs to Mary, who pulled out her fabulous naming abilities once again. The quote originally comes from the musical Mame, “Life is a banquet and most poor sons-of-bitches are starving to death.” Mary did a little altering and it just seemed to fit.
This blog will, in one way or another, be about my life and the people, places, and things that come in and out of it. It will be about the many different flavors that make up me and the people in my life. And I hope it will remind us all that every life should be tasted, savored, and enjoyed, just like food at a banquet.
So stay tuned. I am excited to see what comes of this blog. Here are a few things I hope it will be:
-An outlet for my atrophying writing skills
-A chronicle & reminder of this era of my life
-A place for me to tell stories…because, for me, things aren’t real unless I have someone to tell them to.

I like the title. I’ve never seen Mame. But my buddy Joe and I constantly talk about how we don’t like to eat food as fuel.
The difference between Domino’s and Northlake.
McDonald’s and Red Mill.
Sizzler & Ruth Chris.
Life is too short not to acknowledge that food/taste is a gift and for us to view it merely as fuel for sustenance is selling ourselves short. We like to view food/taste as an opportunity to gather with family & friends and to truly taste and enjoy our food.
I have a big problem with eating my food too fast, so this is a constant challenge for me.
But your title of Life is a Banquet reminds me to make the most out this life. To dress up, bring a guest, and take time to truly taste life.
